When Elie arrives in camp, he states, "The night had passed completely. The morning star shone in the sky. I too had become a different person. The student of the Talmud, the child that I was, had been consumed by the flames. All that was left was a shape that resembled me. My soul had been invaded - and devoured - by a black flame." (pg. 37)
What does this quote show about how Elie has been affected by his imprisonment, and how does this relate back to the Never Shall I Forget passage on pg. 34?

What does this quote show about Elie as a character - how is this affecting him?
They thought that they lost their humanity and their confidence in the
fire.
because they had to see people dying and a lot of people suffering and a ugly and horrible place
This quote shows show that elies imprisonment by telling that he has too change be a different person.
This relates too the never shall i forget passage because he will never be able too forget what they did too him and the pain they cause him.
this shows that all of his dreams were burned by the flames and they took everything he had.example they took away his dignity,happiness and they murdered his God and his soul.
@Isaiah
What fire? Where?
This quote shows that Elie has to be a different person in the night time because watching the revolting thing that had happened in the fire really had changed him emotionally. This relates back to the Never Shall I Forget because in the passage it was talking about the flames just like the quote and how Elie also had stated how messed up his soul was in the quote and in the the Never Shall I Forget he talked about his soul being murdered figuratively.

This quote shows his feeling about the imprisonment because he feels like "a dog" like an animal; someone who doesn't belong. This quote relates to Never I Can Forget passage because he is living a new life. He is being miss treated and he and everyone doesn't think is right. Also he has nothing that he had before and he wants to learn about Judaism but he can't learn in the camp.
this quote shows that his dream was burning in flames or it was gone.Also this relate back to "Never Shall I Forget" because Elie says goodbye to his father which he means his dad was dead.And he was very sad.
This quote shows Elie was affected by his imprisonment because he was describing how his life was as a child. When he was in there he thought of how his childhood went away with no trace. He thought that all that was left was himself. This relates back to the Never Shall I Forget passage because its talking about how he saw the children's faces when they were being burned and how he looked at it.uote shows that Elie has been
@gabriella the flames that had burned the people
@bryce how does he feel like a dog like i agree but how do u think he feels like a dog
Augusto, thank you for including information from the Never Shall I Forget text when you stated the Nazis murdered his God and his soul. He definitely is a different person now. Is there anything else you think shows how he's changing because of this experience?
i think that when Elie says the night has passed he meant that the bad just stopped. But the worst is going to come soon or will be coming after and the good is about to come before the bad. He means the flames are consuming him as in it means that all the bad things are coming but there is worse that is coming. This relates back to the poem by the poem saying that the night or bad is going to be long and the good things will be few or short.
This quote shows that Elie has change his personality because of being in that place. He used to read the Bible and now being in that place made him change.
this cote show me that Elie thought his going to change if he read the bible.he also don't wont to give up.he also don't have the feeling to consumed by the flames,but he wish he is a teenager when he and his family were taken from their home.
@isaiah
how did they loose their confidence?
@Jeanette
Ah, okay. Nice response, by the way.
( No sarcasm intended )
@Richie he feels like " a dog " because it was quote in the book and to be miss treated.
@Mrs. Sullivan
This showed that Elie really thought about his life and how he saw other people and how they were treated
